The Diplomats Return for Thanksgiving
The Diplomats gave their fans a Thanksgiving present with the release of their first album in 15 years, Diplomatic Ties. Jim Jones, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zeekey reunited for nine tracks including existing singles ‘Sauce Boyz’ and ‘On God’, with contributions from HeatMakerz, Belly, The LOX, Murda Beatz, Tory Lanez and Trav.
Last month, Jim Jones announced plans for a new Diplomats album, Diplomatic Ties.
“On Thanksgiving, there will be a Diplomats album dropping,” Jim Jones told the crowd that had gathered for his group’s A3C recent performance. “It’s called Diplomatic Ties. We’ve been in the studio and we appreciate the love.”
Diplomatic Ties is finally here and available for streaming in its entirety. The new album includes the previously released Murda Beatz-produced single “On God” featuring Belly and the Heatmakerz-produced track “Sauce Boyz.”
Dipset’s Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, and Freekey Zekey are back with their new album Diplomatic Ties.
Cam’ron took a direct shot at Kanye West on the first track called, “Intro: Stay Down.” Cam dedicated his entire verse to call out his former frequent collaborator. What’s even more savory about the track, it kicks off with a soundbite of Drake, who is also feuding with the Chicago rapper.
“Dame Dash my man, he shootin’ then I’m buckin’ with him/They shootin’ at us? Shit, I’m duckin’ with him/But I had to be firm and tell ’em that Kanye only fuck witchu when on one else is fuckin’ with him,” Killa spits. “He told me he was bipolar/I looked and said, ‘Bipolar?’/Don’t be ridiculous, he wasn’t in the mix with us/Bricks from Hamilton Terrace/He didn’t take the risk with us/Ain’t boil a coffee pot, ain’t open the barbershop/Where we sold hydro at, where we pissed off the cops/The ones in the Taurus, nigga, he a tourist/Uncle Tom nigga know nothin’ about this chorus.”
The last time we heard from The Diplomats, it was 2004 and the crew was releasing Diplomatic Immunity 2. Fourteen years later, the likes of Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, Jim Jones and Freekey Zekey have re-connected on wax for a full project titled Diplomatic Ties. There aren’t many features but Tory Lanez, The LOX, Belly and Trav happened to make the cut for the effort, as they hook up with producers like The Heatmakerz, Murda Beatz and more.
Notably, Diplomatic Ties is made up of nine new tracks, including collaborations with Tory Lanez, The Lox, Trav and Belly. The LP serves as the group’s first full-length studio project in 14 years, having emerged as the follow-up to 2004’s Diplomatic Immunity 2.
To mark the release of Diplomatic Ties, Dipset performed at the Apollo Theater on Friday, Nov. 23. “We are committed to celebrating the legacy of Black music and its effect on popular culture,” Apollo’s executive producer Kamilah Forbes previously said in a statement. “Dipset is a perfect example of a group that started here in Harlem and made an impact on music that lasted decades.”
