Krept & Konan unleash “Wrongs” video ft Jhene Aiko
It’s been a crazy 2018 so far for UK superstars, Krept and Konan, with the release of their dual mixtape, and the opening of their brand new restaurant ‘Crepes and Cones’. And, they aren’t slowing down any time soon.
Krept and Konan are a rap duo from London, consisting of Casyo “Krept” Johnson, from Gipsy Hill and Karl “Konan” Wilson, from Thornton Heath and son of Delroy Wilson otherwise known as ‘Jamaica’s first child star’. The duo is known for making an impact on the UK underground scene with their music, punch lines and metaphors.
Formed in 2009, the pair eschewed the traditional quest for major-label interest, concentrating instead on spreading the word via social media, and eventually via their own label and clothing line, Play Dirty. It was a 2010 mixtape titled Tsunami that initially turned the heads of a significant number of people, before their cover of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Otis” racked up millions of YouTube views in less than a week in early 2011.
Their first major release was the mixtape Young Kingz and was released on 2 September 2013. The album managed to reach the U.K. Top 20 with an almost nonexistent marketing budget, and featured appearances from artists such as Giggs, Chip, and Tinie Tempah. A year later the group signed with Def Jam, and released The Long Way Home on the label in 2015. The album featured guest spots from Ed Sheeran, Rick Ross, and Wiz Khalifa, and debuted at number two on the U.K. albums chart
The organic, wordy, and literate hip-hop created by Casyo “Krept” Johnson and Karl “Konan” Wilson — aka South London duo Krept & Konan — had slipped into the mainstream in a relatively natural and gradual way by 2013.
The duo have teamed up with talented director, KLVDR, to shoot a cinematic visual for their track “Wrongs” from the “7 Nights ” mixtape, featuring the incredible, Jhene Aiko. It also processes negative emotions and dramas that sometimes involve relationships. The pair admit to some of their less noble actions in the stylish black-and-white visual. Delicate tones by Jhené Aiko give the song the finishing touches on a musical level. The relaxed atmosphere harmonizes unbelievably well with the simple black-and-white video.
7 Days is the fourth mixtape by British rap duo Krept and Konan. It is part of a dual-release alongside 7 Nights, released on 20 October 2017 by Virgin EMI. The mixtape includes guest appearances from Skepta, J Hus and Stormzy. It was supported by the lead single “Wo Wo Wo”. 7 Nights had more of an R&B flavor and featured appearances from Hudson East and Tony Lanez. ~ James Wilkinson
Despite the title, there’s a pronounced sense of nighttime about the hypnotic trap beats on this South Londoners’ dual mixtape. On the drowsy “Wo Wo Wo,” the pair surveys their success with the warm, woozy glow that comes at the end of a particularly satisfying night out, while an eerie synth melody creeps through some typically smart wordplay on Stormzy collaboration “Ask Flipz.” However, J Hus brings extra melodic sparkle to “Get a Stack,” and “Cold Summer (Krept Freestyle)” raises the intensity for a searing examination of religion, race, and social injustice.
This collaboration had everyone talking, and is one of the biggest link ups to come from a UK artist. Jhene delivers some of her flawless vocals while Krept and Konan bring a vibe with their wavey raps.
