Jamakabi and D Double E connect with “Wickedest Ting”.
Former member of Roll Deep Crew, Grime MC Jamakabi will be well-known to those who have followed grime from its early beginnings. Jamakabi has returned to the spotlight again with new single Wickedest Ting featuring Newham Generals member D Double E. Jamakabi and D Double E are both respected grime figureheads, and Wickedest Ting does not disappoint as it’s an authentic underground anthem in the making.
Jamakabi would class himself as a “Dancehall flavoured Grime emcee/artist”. He was born in East London but grew up in various areas around London.
He started his music career back in 2002 as a member of the legendary Roll Deep Entourage. Members included names such as Wiley, Tinchy Stryder and Dizzee Rascal. Jamakabi featured on the debate Roll Deep album called ‘In At The Deep End’ which sold over 85,000 copies, earning them a silver plaque.
In 2004 Jamakabi featured on a track called ‘Pow/Forward’ by Lethal Bizzle (produced by Dexplicit). The track also featured names such as D Double E and FlowDan. This track turned out to be 1 of the biggest Grime track of all time. The track charted in january 2005 at number 11 in the U.K singles chart. In 2011 Lethal released a remix of ‘Pow’ featuring fellow Grime artists Jme, Wiley, Chipmunk, Face, P Money, Ghetts and Kano.
Produced by Chimpo, Wickedest Ting has a menacing beat that will have you bopping your head. Jamakabi and D Double E exchange verses, and the chemistry is evident as they both gel together. The song’s murky production is complimented by the two lyricists, Jamakabi is hilarious as he spits “No JSA, but I’m gonna get the benefits”. Jamakabi is confident as he boasts about his lyrical abilities and asserts that he is the “wickedest ting”. D Double E’s also supplies catchy and witty lyrics on the song.
