Meek Mill break the silence in this interview with Breakfast Club
Meek Mill is a free man once again. Just last month the Philadelphia rapper was released from prison, following a long, public battle that stemmed from probation violations surrounding a fight at a St. Louis airport and reckless driving charges in New York. Now he has come through with an interview for a lifetime. After speaking with “Dateline’s” Lester Holt and Power 105’s Angie Martinez, the Dreamchasers boss pulled through for “The Breakfast Club” and didn’t hold back. Over 60 minutes, Meek discussed everything from where things stand between himself and ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj to battling drug addiction.
Il rapper di Filadelfia Meek Mill has only been a free man for a few weeks, but he seems like a changed man. He’s using his newfound freedom to shed light on the criminal justice system and how he plans to prevent his situation from happening again.
While Wins And Losses was largely accepted as his strongest project thus far, momentum was stymied by an unjust and controversial prison sentence. Meek found himself behind bars for a trumped up parole violation. Throughout his struggle, the people seemed to rally around the Philadelphia rapper like never before; it didn’t take long for Meek to become a figurehead of sorts for change in the justice system.
His Breakfast Club Interview kicks off with a discourse on his experience. Reflecting on the process of his arrest, Meek marvels at the fact that people were literally standing in the rail to protest his incarceration. Nowadays, the rapper carries a certain gravitas, a newfound sense of purpose.
The Philly MC went on to compare the judge to a “slave chaser.” “A guy in jail was like, ‘That lady a slave chaser. You a dream chaser. You trying to run from the plantation. You made it far. You made it 30 miles out. They sent her to chase you down. Y’all could have both got away. She grabbed you and dragged you all the way back.’ That’s how I view it, for real, for real,” Meek added.
During the extensive interview, Meek opened up about his recently unearthed Opioid addiction, “I never had molly in my life. I thought was okay, I wouldn’t be addicted, or it wouldn’t hurt me because it’s a pill that a doctor would prescribe you. A girl gave it to me one day, ‘This is gonna make you fuck for an hour.’ Yeah? Let me try this. This a pill that a doctor would give me if I had a toothache. Sometimes you gotta go overboard. I made girls fall in love with me off Percs.”
In the midst of Meek’s tumultuous prison saga, Meek’s attorney claimed Judge Genece Brinkley asked Meek to remake Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” as a tribute to her. His ex-girlfriend Nicki Minaj, recently sided with Mill’s judge about remixing Boyz II Men’s “On Bended Knee” with a custom shoutout, qualifying it as an improper request. Speaking to The Breakfast Club hosts, Meek insisted he had no reason to make that story up.
“Why would I make that up?" asked Meek. “It actually was somebody else there. They said they don’t want to involve they self in it. But you know, [Nicki Minaj] definitely was there.”
“The judge in question did everything I asked of her so I can’t badmouth her because I met her personally," Minaj said. “I know what she said to us. He knows that I know that. Of course, I wouldn’t wish jail on anybody but…I’ll get into detail on that in the documentary and possibly on the album.”
Meek said he wasn’t pleased with this response. “I wasn’t feeling that," he said. “She shouldn’t have said nothing. We’ll leave it at that. I don’t feel no way. I wasn’t feeling that. When it come to freedom. I don’t care who it is, this could be Safaree, or anybody. if I know something and that man’s freedom is on the line and I could say something to help the situation… It’s right or wrong. I’ma say it. If I don’t say it, I just won’t say nothing.”
When asked about his former rival, Meek admits he was appreciative of Drake’s shout out. “He put good energy in the air. What happened happened. We moved past that. I think we’ll have a conversation next time we see each other, and get it going.”
