Jorja Smith returns to her debut album Lost & Found before the year draws to a close, highlighting one of its standout tracks, she just released the music video of his court “The One” by Lost & Found, a song that exposes the meaning of living your love to the fullest.
Even though she’s in the midst of her second North American tour of 2018 and notched a Grammy nomination for best new artist, Jorja Smith made some time to drop off the tender visual to “The One” on Dec. 7, The Joel Compass-produced song originally landed as a deep cut on the emerging R&B singer’s acclaimed Lost & Found debut album, which released back in June.
Directed by Hector Dockrill who also directed the video of Jorja’s previous single ‘Beautiful Little Fools’, the video shows Smith desperately trying to leave a lover and a relationship that she knows are not well; but always being pulled back. Finally, finding the strength to leave, the video ends with a powerful and beautiful moment of true emotion. And also responsible for her previous video ‘On Your Own’ – the video sees Jorja struggling to escape the allure of a relationship that she knows isn’t right, and draws to an empowering conclusion when she finally gathers the strength to leave it behind.
The emotional visual directed by Hector Dockrill sees Jorja desperately trying to leave a lover and relationship, but is always being pulled back in. Who can relate? In the end, she eventually finds strength through the tears and leaves. Thank you, next. The clip finds the 21-year-old in a deeply emotional state of reflection, but she refuses to rely on someone else’s comfort to help uplift her out of sadness. Director Hector Dockrill explained how he brought Smith’s vision to life.
“The track really inspired me to try and visualise what it’s like to keep getting pulled back into a relationship,” says Dockrill. “With the concept I wanted to leave the question, ‘What has happened?’ I also felt the video should be beautifully simple to let Jorja’s incredible energy and performance drive the video, which she naturally did.”
In addition to releasing the video, the Walsall native also unleashed a pair of remixes to “The One” with assists from Grime artist Sir Spyro and High Contrast. As for Jorja Smith’s Lost & Found Tour, J-Money next heads to Nashville, Tenn., for a show on Dec. 8.
